ANGELOU BY HALE AND CHAVEZ: HUMAN TRIBE
Angelou is an expression of the Human Connection, its transference through tradition and ritual. Community is reflected through our own representation of the human tribe. Angelou represents a reality in which the Goddess has been reborn. Society is built upon equality. Identity has the freedom of sexual fluidity. Self expression is the highest form of ritual.
Silhouettes continuously evolve between elongated feminine and top heavy masculine shapes. Exaggerated draping and aggressive wrapping are paired with delicate dyeing, beading and threadwork. Traditional approaches to fabric treatment reintegrate the presence of the creative spirit in the human tribe.
Angelou is the brain child of Miguel Chavez and Emmalou Hale. In a not so distant past, Hale and Chavez were studio partners finishing off their undergrad in Studio Art at McMaster University. For the past year the two have been combining their shared love for art and fashion in this collaborative mix. Angelou pairs Chavez’s meticulous brush stroke with Hale’s intricate threadwork. Hale and Chavez are inspired bold patterns, bright colours and authentic individualism. Angelou is a self expression beyond the mundane.
