ANYA SHOR: Girls Don’t Dress For Boys
I have always been fascinated by dancers and movement. As a stylist and filmmaker my favourite projects involved dancers. I love really exploring the functionality of fashion as it relates to the human body and movement. I love the idea of someone getting dressed and dancing and the way that clothing fits or serves to inspire a certain mood or state of mind. I had an empty room and knew a girl who could move very well. I decided to bring on a stylist, a cameraman, and a makeup artist and throw it all together.
I worked as a stylist in the fashion, music video and commercial industry for 12 years. I was represented exclusively by Judy Inc. I always had a desire to make films and had been awarded a bravofact grant with which I completed what was essentially my first fashion film under the guise of a music video for a song that I composed and performed. The short was screened at a bravo short festival and had reached #19 on their videofact chart. It is only recently that I venture back into filmmaking after 5 years as the director of Neubacher Shor Contemporary art gallery. This is my first completed project of the year.
