OSCAR MENDOZA: INSECTMOBILIA (FALL WINTER 2016-17)
My collections are the story of a dream, created in a place where mostly reality touches the surreal. Clever silhouettes to adorn those illusions, fashion becomes a character within. Inspirations come mostly from the dark or the magic, Often I wi try to metamorphose feelings into shapes, into textures, into ideas that will decorate peoples’s behaviour or be the expression tool for people’s persona.
After all what is fashion for, but an instrument to demonstrate who we are, to excel our own self-expression to surpass us and show the world the strong opinion we have or ourselves.
This is a collection inspired by the stunning work of different well known artists, who have use the nature and insects as inspiration and as characters for their stories and expression. Enigmatic they may seems these small but powerful beings symbolize: purity, magic, darkness, freedom and many other connotations in different contexts so because of that richness in meaning I chose them, to be part of my inspiration for my Fall-Winter 2016-17 collection.
In terms of Trends and references you will see in my pieces strong influences from trends such as: Sheer, Bohemian, Punk, Goth and Hippie chic and more inspiration than references the Victorian period for the clothing.
Oscar Mendoza is a canadian-mexican designer based in Montreal. truly inspired by femininity, european fashion houses and the fairy tales he grew up listening and reading. His art will be described as an eclectic mix of couture techniques, architectural references and colourful palettes without forgetting his mexican heritage.
The Fall-Winter 2016-17 is the product of a dream, art work that evolves, wearable couture pieces for the most exigent tastes.
