Homeworld is a youthful, fantastical collection exploring ideas of home and belonging in terms of place, body, and image. Designer Annabel Gerke combines soft, playful pastels with atypical and unexpected silhouettes to sharply contrast safeness and the uncertain, the familiar and the alien. Opaque and sheer fabrics alternately conceal and expose, to illustrate simultaneous shifts in feelings of inclusion and rejection. Homeworld plays with the fascination and freedom of being elsewhere and the displacement and isolation that comes with leaving home.
Pinkiebel is a brand owned and run by Annabel Gerke. A 22-year-old Nashville native, she relocated to Toronto in 2013 to pursue a diploma in pattern drafting and design. Gerke draws inspiration from anything imaginative or fantastic and has a particular interest in pop culture. Bringing a little bit of fantasy to the real world takes work, creativity, and a resourcefulness that is what Gerke loves best about design. After having graduated, Gerke works full-time at a consignment shop, does alterations and custom daywear commissions on the side, and frequently competes in costume competitions at anime and sci-fi conventions.
