SOPHIA BABOOLAL: NEUTRAL
Gender is nothing more than a social construct—labels that make us feel comfortable. It’s not black and white or pink and blue. It’s something more complex that can’t be summed up in simple binaries. This is the idea that inspired this series, Neutral. To many, neutral may be perceived as a negative quality—something that is neither one way nor another. Non-committal. But when this relates to gender, should this be an issue? My hope is that this series will make viewers re-examine their own ideas of gender and question why they feel so compelled to label.
