DAMZELS IN THIS DRESS

Giddy Up!

Damzels in this Dress have been looking to the past for inspiration for their dress collections since their inception in 1994.
For Spring 2017, Damzels bring their attention to Nudie Cohn, best known for his hallmark designs for the stars of country music.

Cohn, who landed on Ellis Island from Eastern Europe in his youth, got his start as a tailor for the burlesque community and quickly became a celebrity amongst celebrities by creating one of a kind looks for artists like Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, and Elvis Presley.

Damzels tip the figurative cowboy hat to Nudie’s suits in their collection titled “Giddy Up”.  A homage to his visionary union of fashion and rock n’ roll.

Dresses emblazoned with rhinestones, embroidery and sequins will strut the runway in their signature fits and styles. As always, Damzels will utilize models of all shapes and sizes to highlight the collection and diversity of their customer base.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Damzels in this Dress are Kelly Freeman and Rory Lindo; Toronto dress designers and retailers, who have made a name and a living in the fashion industry for the past twenty plus years.

Maybe you’re more familiar with one of their two retail locations, Doll Factory by Damzels, located on Queen St. E and Roncesvalles Ave. Or maybe you’ve been following them from their inception in 1994 when they sold their handmade dresses anywhere from open-air markets, to The Clothing Show, and eventually far beyond.

Damzels in this Dress has built their reputation on great dresses. Often vintage inspired, always complement worthy, Damzels is a brand that was constructed from the ground up, and has developed a devout following of fashion forward femme fatales who continue to follow them to this day.

Damzels dresses have been sold to independent boutiques and larger retailers across Canada, the US, and internationally. Their dress collections have been shown during Toronto Fashion Week, featured on Fashion Television, BT and Much Music to name a few, Jeanne Beker even called them the Canadian Betsey Johnson!
