HARLEQUIN is a collection inspired by historical Italian theatrical characters. The first form of professional theatre, known as Commedia dell’arte, marked an important time for the development of Italian costume and formal fashion, influenced by characters such as the Pierrot and Harlequin. The 18th century was a vital period in development of Italian marionette theatre, a popular form of entertainment among aristocratic groups. VANIKA utilizes textured, colorful, ruffled, and silk fabrics to bring the light-hearted but dramatic dolls and characters of the Harlequin to life in feminine form.
VANIKA is both a ready to wear and artistic fashion label founded by model/designer Vanessa Kiraly and tailor Ildiko Csorgo. VANIKA aims to tell a story through their runway collections. Inspired by transformation and sophistication, each piece in their line is unique and one of a kind. VANIKA has been featured in Fashion Art Toronto 2014-2015, and several publications such as the Toronto Star, ATLAS Magazine, Dark Beauty Magazine, Jute Magazine, Veux Magazine, Ellements Magazine, Institute Magazine, Borealis Magazine, and Elegant Magazine.
