REIMAGINE: ORIENTAL CREATURES & SHADOW PUPPETS
Nine-headed phoenix, human-faced bird, fish-body dragon…Explore the imaginative world of the people who lived in ancient China, the artist that brings the monsters in the mythical book “the classic of mountains and rivers” back to life. Some of the monsters are sacred, can sing or dance; some of them are evil, cursed and poisonous. They live in this northern mountain, that southern river. Fascinated by traditional Chinese shadow-puppet play, the artist creates monsters in hand-painted leather, and gives them movable body parts. This collection is a brave experiment of rebirthing tradition culture to be modern and cool.
