FASHION ART TORONTO
Virtual Runway Series
Our Virtual Runway Show Series, launching with showcasing five designers collections across five dates at five different locations around the city. The virtual runway presentations will be streamed live on the Fashion Art Toronto Instagram every Monday and Friday evening throughout the summer, with the kick off show taking place on Monday, June 22 at 8.p. EST. All presentations will also be shared on the Fashion Art Toronto YouTube channel.
“As creatives, it’s in our nature to innovate and reinvent, especially in the face of challenges. The Fashion Art Toronto team came together to create an alternative online runway series so that we could provide a creative, captivating and safe platform for fashion designers,” said Vanja Vasic, founder and executive director of Fashion Art Toronto. “Since we weren’t able to host our traditional event this past April, it’s more important than ever to keep our community active, engaged and connected. And we look forward to putting on our main public-facing event again, once it’s safe to do so.”
Scenic urban landscapes around Toronto will provide picturesque backdrops as models walk the runway. Designers participating in the virtual series include statement-making Mic Carter/L’uomo Strano and Padina Bondar, vintage-reviving Meesh and Gorm Garms, and gender-bending up-cycler Neoteny Apparel.
The production and filming of the shows will feature a limited in-person crew and not permit any guests on-site, as well as follow social distancing guidelines and safety regulations including models doing their own hair/makeup at home. The crew will provide masks to all models, designer and team members, tape off six-foot gaps for model areas, and offer hand sanitizer to everyone on-site.
“We’ve put together a dynamic schedule of shows from five talented designers who are expanding boundaries around gender norms, sharing sustainable alternatives and who are creatively using fashion to make powerful social statements,” added Vasic.
