ANN LIN & SABRINA SHEN
ANN LIN & SABRINA SHEN: AKAI
WANWEI HUANG’s collection is a joyful expression of a quirky, artistic sensibility. Inspired by the artist Yayoi Kusama, the collection irreverently explores the concept of infinity expressed through dots, masterfully depicted in original textiles and inventive pattern cutting. The Series title [AKAI] meaning red in Japanese pronunciation. The photographs by Ann & Sabrina captures a visual tension through reconstruction of objects and forms that mimics the ultimate element in Wanwei’s collection.
Wanwei Huang was born and grew up in southern China. She was interested in art and design since childhood and studied fine art and painting at her high school. After studying in Australia for two years, she moved to Canada in 2010. As an emerging designer, Wanwei combines her innate creative abilities and unique aesthetics in her designs, and was awarded the “Media Favourite Award” at the Seneca Redefining Design Show in 2014. Also, in 2015 Wanwei showcased her collection at the Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week (Red Emerging Designer). Reflecting her personality, Wanwei’s collections embody an artistic, fresh, and girly look.
