SARAH THOMSON: THE TECH GENERATION
My concept explores the trendy “anti-conformist” sub culture of the future; the next beatnik, or hipster movement. The middle class, educated generation who strive to have a unique identity. They are the existentialist artists, poets and musicians who, far too often, get lost in the journey to change and find reason in the world around us. In the past, they found mental solace through drugs. The next generation will find their peace through technology, information and bio hacking.
The way we interact with each other is changing. The definition of social interaction will mold into one guided by our use of technology. It will become the norm to interact with each other through technology instead of in the solid world. Becoming dependent and addicted to technology, the transitional experimental transhumanist era will define our future.
As less importance lies with social interaction and our daily lives are spent on the computer or in a digital space, there will be less of a focus on fashion. In this series we have used minimalist fashion to show this mindset. A dead pan look from our models shows a more inward state of mind. The series does not explain the technological concepts pictured but merely aims to have a social commentary on the future generations.
