YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

The title of this collection is “you are my sunshine”, inspired by my Godmother who used to sing the song to me as a child. Using only forgotten and thrown away textiles, these pieces of cloth become transformed into the story of family, change, and growth. My Godmother immigrated to Canada with no family, friends, or connections here. She discovered her own path, and found a new family here while never forgetting where she came from. Each garment in this collection is inspired by her journey and the lives she transformed.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Stephanie is an Interdisciplinary artist and dressmaker based in Toronto, Ontario. Being an OCAD U Alumni, Art is at the forefront of 1991 Atelier. 1991 Atelier incorporates many textile design elements and hand craft techniques. Breathing new life into old, discarded textiles.
