THE JUNCTION COLLECTION
This site-specific fashion collection integrates indigenous and non-indigenous materials, principles and philosophies to explore the contrasts of life in Haines Junction, Yukon. The pieces were created on-site as part of a 3-month art residency that included and intimate exchange with Champagne and Aishihik and Kluane makers and knowledge keepers. The resulting garments and accessories interpret Haines Junction’s nature, histories and peoples while integrating indigenous philosophical principles with current aesthetics and functions. Each piece incorporates locally-available fabrics furs and up-cycled materials. Conceptually, the project dualistically fuses Southern Touchone concepts and themes with contemporary fashion sensibilities.
