Y(OUR) SPACE

This piece is a tribute to the rituals of enlightenment. Each individual is going through their journey but is joined together to reach this sense of ‘nirvana’, a feeling of complete peace and resolution.

It’s a theatrical take on what would be a ceremony or rite, presented by dance. The main dancer will be wearing a piece of white clothing that will have many threads, as she dances, will start to unravel and get tangled amongst the other dancers and movers on stage, showcasing their connection with one another, despite their differences.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Joie Ann Merana is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary creative immersed in dance; performance, direction, and styling. Her work experience includes: performing with Melxdie to open up for British rapper and singer Stefflon Don, Choreographer and Movement Direction for Anjulie’s music video, “Glory”, Choreographed, Directed and Styled campaign for clothing brand in Toronto and one of the feature dancers for the short film “Work” by SGO Productions for Film 4, in London, UK, as well as be the Co- Choreographer and dancer for a music video for “1 AM” by Luti Media.

Joie aims to combine her experiences behind and in front of camera to create work that includes showcases representation and pushes the limits to creativity by collaborating with various artists like singers, models, dancers, directors and stylists. She wishes to keep pushing her work and continue to expand her creativity, exploring works that are thought-provoking and meaningful.
